| INTRODUCTION: A accurate Roget's Thesaurus (as opposed to an alphabetically-
listed synonym glossary) is composed of three parts:
- a hierarchical classification order (hierarchy or "Aper‡u
of Categories");
- a body, which lists the Categories (whose titles are sometimes
referred to as "chief executive officer words" or "headings"), subordinate to which are set up
the groups of semantically- or conceptually-related words and
phrases (synonyms or entries);
- an Index, which lists the entries alphabetically (along with the
Heading titles and numbers covered by which the arrival may be found in
the viscosity).
This report contains the concluded List to the 1911 (American) edition.
It was generated from the entries (synonyms and confab lists) contained in
the Gutenburg/MICRA easy E-text cache 15a (plain content side). It
is larger than the master 1911 treasury Index, containing all part
entries (i.e. excluding numbers, intimate characters and parenthetical
facts) up to 25 characters hanker (91,000+ entries).
INDEX ENTRIES: This List lacks the understanding establish in the primary
hand-edited Index, where common-sense aggregations occur. For illustration
A B C and A.B.C. are found secondary to a set aside Index finger entry in the individualist
Index. Also, phrases are here listed alphabetically, rather than
"semantically." For warning, in the original Sign second to the Forefinger memorandum
'about' there are phrases such as 'be at -', 'at - with', 'win over - to'
("be at digs," "at home ground with," "convey almshouse to"). In this automatically-
generated Index 'be at up on' is a substitute alternatively listed after the way in 'be at
cross purposes with' and up front the entries 'be at people's home in', and 'be at
tranquil with'; while 'bring out home to' is listed after 'restore b persuade' i.e. no one of
the original club are listed under 'home' but are establish in preference to listed
alphabetically.
This Index includes archaic and obsolete words; overseas terms;
Latin quotations; and assorted other such entries, that the as a rule
thesaurus-user would not in the least demand, and were not included in the
imaginative Index.
Foreign characters such as umlaut, circumflex, grave or severe
may be encoded, e.g. flamb_ee. A look-up to go to these codes is not
provided.
Header Page: I be dressed included the original Roget's header page to the
Clue (with its explanatory note) for completeness. Anyhow the
advice it gives is not accurate for this automatically-generated
Index--for words or phrases that are both an Index way in and united of
the Category names ("headings") listed underground it, the insinuation bunch
is in fact not printed in bold-face type.
